Find help and track your request.
Search practical guidance first. When you need help, send an asynchronous request with a durable reference and follow its status from your account.
Find the next useful action
These guides are maintained around the work authors actually need to finish.
Getting startedFind tools in the top navigation
The sticky navigation groups your tools across the top of the workspace. Choose Create for Library and Canon, Editing for manuscript tools, and Illustration, Publish, Marketing, Project, Account or Support for those areas. On a narrow screen, open Menu first. Use Tab to reach controls, Enter or Space to open a group, and Escape to close it. Moving between tools does not change the active book. Question-mark help works with hover, keyboard focus or a tap; errors, costs and required approvals stay on the page.
Editing and collaborationUse comments, replies, review tools and version history
In Manuscript, choose the Editor tab, then open Comments, Tracked changes, Version history or Review workflow. These panels do not block writing. Drag the grip to move a panel, use its arrow keys, or choose Left, Center or Right from Position. Close or Escape returns to the editor without discarding the tool draft. On small screens the panel fits the available viewport. Comments and replies follow the book owner’s Professional sharing allowance and your assigned role. Save manuscript changes before applying tracked suggestions or restoring a revision; the app checks for conflicting edits. Version history remains available on every plan. A review checklist is a reminder, not an automatic approval or complete professional edit.
Project managementPlan book production with the Gantt schedule
In Project management, choose Schedule to view saved milestones, tasks and subtasks on a calendar Gantt chart. Add planned start and completion dates, a current book-member assignee, status, progress and dependencies. Record actual completion separately; an overdue planned date is not an actual finish. Select an entry to edit its details. Use Today, Project start, previous/next range and zoom to explore dates, or Accessible table for all dates and dependency names without timeline clipping. Undated work is kept, not assigned invented dates. Dependencies describe finish-to-start sequencing and are checked for cycles; dates are not automatically rescheduled. Existing automated chapter-production units remain separate until you deliberately link them to a project entry.
IllustrationChoose canon traits and character relationships
Choose established visual traits from the character fields or select Custom to preserve an exact manuscript or scanner detail. A saved custom value is never silently converted to a preset. Blank means unknown, not absent. Silhouette measurements and selected shapes remain authoritative when that geometry mode is used. In Relationships, both selectors use Character Canon entries from the selected book. Family, personal, professional, narrative and authority connections are available, along with Custom. Read the connection in order: first character, relationship, related character. Reciprocal relationships are not created automatically. Use context for changes over time and keep earlier story events intact. Correct the named input checks before requesting paid model planning.
Getting startedStart, import, or manually write a book
Choose Create book for a guided project, or Upload document in Library for an existing DOCX, EPUB, or TXT manuscript. Every project must declare fiction, nonfiction, or children’s picture book so its structure, continuity, research, and illustration checks fit the work. The manuscript editor also supports manual writing without generation.
Writing and generationA generation paused or did not finish
Check the saved result or recovery status first. Do not repeat a paid request while its outcome is uncertain. Use the available recovery action; start a new request only when the app confirms this is appropriate. If you cannot continue, report the page, approximate time and visible error. Choose the affected book without copying manuscript text.
Plans and billingUnderstand credits, caps, and top-ups
Your plan pays for the BookSemantic workspace; paid AI use is separate. Open Plans and usage to see available AI credits, recent activity and top-up options. Review the displayed cost before requesting paid work. If a completed payment or credit adjustment is missing, send a Billing request with the transaction date and amount, never full card details.
Editing and collaborationRecover writing and restore a version
The editor stores offline recovery data and queues saves when the connection drops. Section history and manuscript snapshots provide server-side restore points. When a conflict is detected, preserve and compare both versions; do not clear browser storage until the draft is safely restored.
PublishingResolve EPUB or print preflight findings
Choose the intended edition in Publishing package and read the named checks in its report. Correct the findings, prepare a new candidate and review the actual files. Native press preparation provides separate interior and full-wrap PDFs with restricted checks targeting PDF/X-1a:2001, without an external application. Use a printer-supplied or approved output condition when required. Passing checks is not independent certification or guaranteed acceptance. Complete the destination preview and a physical print proof; inspect EPUB navigation and reading order separately.
IllustrationApprove character, object and location references
Step 1: In Canon, review and correct the character, object or location geometry, then approve its required views. Step 2: Review illustrated baselines for appearance and continuity. Keep intentional story changes connected to the original reference. Step 3: In Illustrator, compose and separately review the chapter image before placement. References guide the result; they do not remove the need to review final artwork.
Privacy and securityReport a privacy or security concern safely
Use Privacy complaint for a concern about personal-data handling and Security report for suspected account compromise or a vulnerability. Do not paste passwords, API keys, payment-card numbers, or unnecessary manuscript content. Privacy complaints are acknowledged within 30 days; urgent risk is prioritized without promising an instant live response.
TroubleshootingA page is blank or an action does not complete
Confirm you are online and keep any unsaved writing safe before refreshing. Try a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari release with script and storage permissions enabled for BookSemantic. Record the page, time, action and visible error. Check saved results before repeating a payment or generation request. If the outcome remains uncertain, contact support.
Send a request and follow its progress
Support is asynchronous; BookSemantic does not currently operate a live support team. Your request receives an immediate on-screen reference. Security and data-risk reports are prioritized. Privacy complaints are acknowledged within 30 days and investigated under the published Privacy Notice.
- Keep passwords, secret keys, and full card numbers out of messages.
- Choose the affected book instead of copying private manuscript text.
- Use one request per issue so its decisions and resolution stay traceable.
