Terms of Use
These terms govern use of BookSemantic. They do not reduce mandatory rights available to consumers under UK law or the law of their country.
1. The agreement
The service is supplied by Intrellus Ltd, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, United Kingdom, WC2H 9JQ. You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding agreement. By creating an account or buying a plan, you accept these terms and the Privacy Notice.
2. Plans and access
- Free: one active book, 250 MB storage, manual semantic writing, revision history and recovery, with metered text AI available through separately purchased credits.
- Creator: five active books, 2 GB storage, series continuity, character and scene references, covers and illustration, branding and advertising tools, and publishing packages.
- Professional: 50 active books, 10 GB storage, higher safety ceilings, plus invitations, live presence, comments, and tracked suggestions.
Current numerical AI and image safety ceilings appear on the Billing page. They prevent runaway or abusive usage and are not prepaid AI allowances. If a subscription expires, is unpaid, or is cancelled at period end, paid-only operations are blocked and the account reverts to Free access. Existing content remains subject to storage, retention, and export rules.
3. Ordering and contract formation
The plan page describes the service, billing interval, price, taxes shown at checkout, available payment methods, and how to cancel. You can review and correct the selected plan before using the payment button. A subscription order is accepted when Stripe confirms the subscription, including an eligible trial, and access is activated. Review and retain your confirmation and billing dates. The contract and customer service are offered in English; save or print these terms for your records.
4. Prices, currencies, renewals, and credits
New monthly platform prices are US$19 for Book Starter, US$99 for Creator and US$199 for Professional in the Americas and Caribbean, or £19, £99 and £199 elsewhere. There is no perpetual free authoring subscription. The optional Audiobook Studio add-on is US$29.99 or £29.99 per month for active Book Starter or Creator accounts. The Illustrator add-on is US$39.99 or £39.99 per month for active Book Starter accounts; illustration is already included in Creator. Professional includes both features, so no add-on purchase is offered. Add-ons do not increase the base plan’s book or storage limits, and AI usage credits remain separate. Existing subscriptions retain their agreed price and currency unless you approve a change. AI wallet values remain accounted for in US dollars; credit top-up checkout may offer a displayed currency conversion. Your bank may apply separate fees. Review the currency, applicable tax and final total in Stripe before confirming payment.
Platform plans and add-ons are monthly only: no annual or multi-year prepaid subscription is offered. They renew monthly until cancelled through the billing portal. Cancellation stops the next renewal and leaves paid access available through the current paid period, unless a statutory cancellation, security restriction or account deletion requires otherwise. An upgrade can end a Starter trial and charge for the increased service immediately; Stripe shows any prorated amount before confirmation. Scheduled downgrades take effect at the period end. AI top-ups are separate from plan fees, are credited in USD value at provider cost, are non-transferable, and are not cash or stored-value currency. Usage, refunds, reversals, and chargebacks are reconciled against the credit ledger.
Book Starter trial
Only Book Starter offers a three-day free trial, once per eligible new account. Creating a sign-in account does not start a trial. The trial starts when you explicitly confirm the Book Starter trial in Stripe; Stripe collects a payment method and shows the trial end and recurring monthly price. Unless cancelled before the trial ends, the first monthly payment becomes due at that time. Cancel before that deadline to avoid the first subscription charge. Trial access ends at the stated trial end if it is cancelled or payment is not completed. Creator, Professional, add-ons and AI usage credits do not receive this trial. Choosing a paid higher plan ends any remaining Starter trial; no unused trial is carried forward. A trial does not include prepaid model usage.
Workspace limits and invited editors
Book Starter permits one active book, 250 MB of private storage and a monthly ceiling of 100,000 AI output tokens. Creator permits five active books, 2 GB, 5,000,000 output tokens, 250 generated images and 100,000 AI narration characters for private listening proofs. Professional permits 50 active books, 10 GB, 25,000,000 output tokens, 1,500 generated images and 2,000,000 AI narration characters. Monthly usage periods use UTC calendar months. Book and storage limits are capacity limits, not monthly allowances. Private storage measures registered uploaded and generated asset files, not manuscript database records, internal caches or recovery overhead. Capacity can include pending reservations for unfinished work. Model usage still requires separately purchased credits; unused safety capacity has no cash value, does not roll over and is not a guarantee of a finished book. A request may be refused if its maximum reserved usage would exceed a ceiling. An unresolved generation may retain a conservative reservation until its outcome is reconciled.
Starter does not include illustration, series production, retailer publishing packages, marketing tools or manuscript sharing. Its Illustrator add-on enables illustration tools with a 250-image monthly ceiling. Audiobook Studio enables production tools and a 2,000,000-character monthly AI narration ceiling for Starter or Creator. Add-ons do not increase book, storage or text-output limits and require an active base subscription. Review and cancel any separately billed add-on when cancelling the base plan; a base-plan cancellation does not silently cancel a separate Stripe subscription.
Creator and Professional authors can invite a registered, email-verified editor to an individual book. The invited editor does not need a paid subscription, payment method or trial. Access is restricted to that shared book’s manual manuscript editor, with the granted viewing, commenting or editing role. It does not include the author’s private planning, AI writer or editor, research library, illustrations, series, production, publishing, downloads or marketing tools. An editor cannot grant themselves owner access or share the book onward. Sharing stops when the author revokes it or the author no longer has an active Creator or Professional subscription. A separate paid plan does not expand an editor’s rights in another author’s book.
5. Cancellation and refunds
You may cancel renewal at any time using Manage subscription in Plans and billing, which opens Stripe’s portal. For an ordinary cancellation, service continues for the remainder of the current paid period and stops at the next billing-cycle date shown in Stripe. It does not create a new charge or an automatic prorated refund for unused days. Services already accessed or supplied are normally non-refundable under our voluntary policy, except where the law requires a refund or other remedy. We do not offer a blanket waiver of consumer rights merely because you sign in, click Approve or use an ongoing service. If you are a UK or EU consumer, any statutory cancellation, refund, repeat-performance, price-reduction, or other digital-service rights continue to apply. Use the support portal or contact support@booksemantic.com to exercise a right or report a service that was not supplied with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms excludes a refund or remedy required by law.
Immediate access and statutory cancellation
At purchase, we ask separately for your express request to begin services and supply digital content immediately, before any applicable withdrawal period ends, alongside acceptance of these terms. Where the law permits, withdrawal rights for digital content may end when supply starts after the required consent and acknowledgement. Starting an ongoing service does not by itself eliminate the right to withdraw from that service. Where applicable, a proportionate charge for services supplied at your express request may be due. Mandatory cooling-off, faulty-service and digital-content remedies, and rights in your country of residence, take precedence over our voluntary refund policy.
Download before access ends
Open and download all work and files available under your plan before the paid or trial period ends, before account termination, or before asking us to delete your account. Check those files locally and keep an independent backup. Cancelling renewal is not the same as deleting an account: account administration and billing remain accessible, but paid authoring tools and book downloads stop when paid access expires. An unpaid invited-editor account can still access a currently shared manuscript while its author’s eligible subscription and invitation remain active. Data retention and statutory data-access requests are governed by the Privacy Notice and applicable law, not by a promise of indefinite workspace access.
How to request a statutory cancellation
Email support@booksemantic.com or use the support portal with your account email, subscription reference, order date and a clear statement that you wish to cancel. You may use this model wording, but are not required to: “To Intrellus Ltd, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, United Kingdom, WC2H 9JQ, support@booksemantic.com: I give notice that I cancel my contract for the BookSemantic service. Ordered on: [date]. Name: [name]. Account email and address: [details]. Date: [date].” Do not include payment-card details. A support request concerning a statutory right is distinct from ordinary end-of-period cancellation.
6. Your content and permissions
You retain ownership of content you submit. You grant BookSemantic a limited, worldwide licence to host, copy, transform, and transmit it only as needed to operate, secure, support, and improve the service you use. You must have the rights and lawful basis needed for manuscripts, references, images, personal data, trademarks, and other materials you submit. Do not use the service for unlawful, infringing, deceptive, abusive, or harmful content, malware, credential theft, or attempts to bypass access, safety, or usage controls.
7. BookSemantic intellectual property
The BookSemantic service, including its original software, interface, workflows, documentation, designs, branding, and related platform materials, is owned by or licensed to Intrellus Ltd and is protected by intellectual-property law. Your subscription gives you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service for its intended purpose while your account remains authorised. It does not transfer ownership of the platform or permit you to copy, resell, sublicense, reverse engineer, or commercially exploit it except where applicable law does not permit that restriction. This section does not claim ownership of your content or override third-party licences.
8. Generated material and publishing
AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, similar to other material, or unsuitable for publication. You are responsible for human review, fact-checking, citations, permissions, originality, platform disclosure requirements, and final editorial decisions. Publishing tools prepare downloadable packages; they do not submit a book to a retailer or guarantee acceptance, sales, copyright protection, or legal compliance.
9. Availability and account action
We aim to operate a reliable service but may perform maintenance, respond to incidents, or change providers and features. We may rate-limit, suspend, or terminate access reasonably needed to address non-payment, security risk, unlawful use, or a material breach. Where appropriate we will provide notice and an opportunity to export content or remedy the breach.
10. Liability
Nothing excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or mandatory consumer rights. Subject to those protections, BookSemantic is not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable loss, lost sales, or a publishing platform’s decision where the loss was not caused by our breach. Business users are responsible for appropriate backups and professional editorial, tax, and legal advice.
11. Governing law, complaints, and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Consumers retain any mandatory protections and court rights available where they live. Material changes will be communicated before they apply where required. Send service complaints through the tracked support portal or to support@booksemantic.com; we will acknowledge them and provide an outcome within a reasonable time. Support is asynchronous and no live-support response is promised. Questions: support@booksemantic.com.
How to use these terms when making a decision
This reading guide is navigation help, not an additional contract, amendment or interpretation that overrides the terms. The numbered sections above contain the applicable statements. Read the relevant section in full before relying on a short summary or an example elsewhere on the website.
Separate the plan from the work you create
For an account decision, review plans, ordering, renewal and cancellation together. For a manuscript decision, review content permissions and generated material. A production tool’s ability to prepare a file is a different question from the permissions needed to publish what the file contains.
Bring the unresolved question to support
If you cannot locate the point that applies, identify the section, the action you were considering and the part that remains unclear. Use the published support contact rather than sending payment credentials or unrelated files. This guide does not create a new response time, remedy or service commitment.
